OTOY's Stellar Voyage: A Groundbreaking Multi-Hour Star Trek Experience for Apple Vision Pro

In an exciting partnership with Paramount Game Studios and The Gene Roddenberry Estate, OTOY has launched a revolutionary spatial experience named 'The Archive' for the Apple Vision Pro. This thrilling development marks a significant evolution of the Roddenberry Archive project, which had over four million visitors during a limited three-week preview on the web in April 2023.

'The Archive' app gives fans nearly two hours of groundbreaking Star Trek spatial experiences exclusively built for the Apple Vision Pro. It allows users to explore hundreds of fully realized locations, artifacts, and unique items spanning every Star Trek TV show and film across the franchise's nearly 60-year history.

This immersive app is not just a viewer, but an interactive platform. With only gaze and touch, users can transport themselves instantly through gorgeous immersive 3D environments traversing different eras of Star Trek. The app also features Apple SharePlay, turning your Star Trek journey into a shared social experience that can be live-streamed with friends and family.

The Archive app offers selected Star Trek assets as downloadable holographic objects that can be placed in the user's home environment. These models and sets can be manipulated in size and scale while rendering at an unprecedented level of realism on consumer hardware.

The app features remastered OTOY concept videos and documentary films from recent Roddenberry Archive releases along with newly restored footage. It also includes previews of the unabridged interviews with George Lucas and Stan Lee exploring Gene Roddenberry's influence on Star Wars and Marvel, showcasing OTOY's many years of collaboration with legendary creators.

The Archive's spatial content was created using the Render Network and OTOY's cutting-edge GPU rendering tools, bringing unprecedented levels of unbiased path-traced realism at high resolutions. This technology allows artists using OTOY's tools to load their own immersive media creations on the Vision Pro and share it with others.

The Archive features 1-meter by 1-meter light field cubes that are displayed at 90-frames-per-second in 4K resolution per eye, pushing the boundary on visual fidelity. Unbiased rendering and light field baking enable audiences to experience Star Trek worlds with fully path traced real-time lighting.

The development of The Archive employed the Universal Scene Description (USD) format as part of OTOY's membership in The Alliance for OpenUSD, a group working to standardize the USD format across the industry to help artists and developers create and deploy complex real-time 3D experiences at scale.

According to Rod Roddenberry, President of Roddenberry Entertainment, the release of The Archive app for the Vision Pro is a major step towards realizing Gene Roddenberry's vision of the Holodeck. This immersive experience is a living testament to Roddenberry's legacy and creative intent, which can now be experienced by current and future generations.

The Archive's release marks a major step towards realizing Gene Roddenberry's vision of the Holodeck. This immersive experience is available for free on both the web and the Vision Pro for a limited time. Later this year, OTOY and Paramount will offer users unlimited viewing time and a-la-carte access to all current and future immersive Star Trek 3D experiences released through The Archive.
