BYD Hits Two Major Milestones in Rayong, Thailand: The 8 Millionth EV and a New Plant!

Hey folks! Have you heard the latest buzz from the automotive world? On July 4th, BYD celebrated something massive in Rayong, Thailand. We're talking about the inauguration of their spanking new Thailand plant and the roll-off of their 8 millionth new EV. Yup, you read that right—8 million! This is a monumental leap for BYD's global expansion, and it’s time we dive into the juicy details.

First things first, let's talk about the new plant in Rayong, Thailand. It’s mind-blowing how BYD managed to complete this facility in just 16 months. That’s like a blink in the world of factory construction! The plant boasts an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles, covering everything from stamping, painting, welding, and final assembly, to producing car components. This place is a powerhouse that’s set to create 10,000 jobs.

Imagine walking through a plant where every corner is buzzing with innovation and efficiency. The cherry on top? The unveiling of the Dolphin model as the 8 millionth new energy vehicle. This isn’t just a car; it’s a symbol of how far BYD has come and where it’s heading.

The inauguration ceremony was nothing short of spectacular. It was attended by some big names like Ms. Pimphattra Wichaikul, Thailand's Minister of Industry, and Mr. Han Zhiqiang, the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand. These VIPs were joined by Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General of Thailand Board of Investment, and of course, Mr. Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD.

Minister Pimphattra Wichaikul couldn’t have praised BYD enough, highlighting its role as a world-leading automobile manufacturer and a pioneer in China's new energy vehicle industry. She emphasized how BYD’s investment and advanced production tech would propel Thailand's new energy vehicle industry forward, benefiting not just Thailand but the entire ASEAN region.

Ambassador Han Zhiqiang took the stage and made it clear that BYD’s achievements were not just a win for the company but also a testament to the strong ties between China and Thailand. He proudly noted that BYD is a stellar example of global new energy vehicle excellence and that the company’s milestones mark a new chapter in China-Thailand cooperation in this sector.

Mr. Wang Chuanfu expressed heartfelt gratitude to both governments, Thai customers, and partners for their unwavering support. He revealed that BYD has been the pure electric vehicle sales champion in Thailand for 18 months within the past two years. The numbers speak for themselves—one in every three electric vehicles sold in Thailand is a BYD. Now, that’s what I call market domination!

BYD isn’t just making waves in Thailand; its global footprint is expanding at an astonishing rate. In 2023 alone, BYD saw a 337% year-on-year increase in exports, totaling 243,000 vehicles. In the first half of this year, BYD sold 1.607 million new energy vehicles globally—a 28% year-on-year increase. That’s some serious growth, folks!

Over 203,000 of these vehicles were exported, marking a 173.8% year-on-year growth. BYD’s new energy vehicles are now cruising around in 88 countries and regions worldwide. With production bases in Thailand, Brazil, Hungary, and Uzbekistan, BYD is truly a global player.

Since rolling off its 1 millionth new energy vehicle in May 2021, BYD has hit the 8 million mark in just over three years. That’s lightning speed! And they’re not slowing down anytime soon. BYD plans to continue expanding its global market presence, leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovative products to meet the diverse needs of consumers worldwide.

With more overseas factories coming online, BYD’s global production capacity is set to skyrocket, further solidifying its leading position in the global new energy vehicle market. So, buckle up, world! BYD is here to stay, and they’re taking the automotive world by storm.

In a nutshell, BYD’s milestones in Rayong, Thailand, are more than just corporate achievements—they’re a glimpse into the future of the automotive industry. With a new plant, the roll-off of their 8 millionth new energy vehicle, and strong ties between China and Thailand, BYD is setting the stage for a greener, more innovative world.
